Medical technology since 1851

Erbe Elektromedizin GmbH was founded in 1851 in Tuebingen, Germany. In the 5th generation, the family-owned company develops, produces and sells systems for electrosurgery, vessel sealing, argon plasma coagulation, cryosurgery and hydrosurgery. Erbe is considered a pioneer in electrosurgery, a technology that utilizes high-frequency currents in order to cut through, coagulate or devitalize tissue, or to seal blood vessels.

1st generation

In collaboration with the surgeon Professor Victor von Bruns, Christian Heinrich Erbe developed new designs that set new standards in the field of medicine.

2nd generation

Christian Gottlieb continually broadened his selection of products, now adding induction equipment, microtomes, endoscopy lighting and ophthalmological instruments to his existing repertoire of instruments.

3rd generation

Otto Erbe changed the course of the company. In terms of the technology used, he focused on the development of an adjustable spark gap that used tungsten rather than silver contacts, for which he was granted a German Imperial Patent in 1931.

4th generation

In 1962, the first sales office was opened in Cologne, with more to follow in Munich, Hamburg, Krefeld, Hannover, Frankfurt and Nuremberg.

5th generation

May 2020 marks a new executive era for Erbe Elektromedizin, with non-family members now joining Christian O. Erbe in managing the company.
